About the position

The Reimagining Justice in Cully Project Coordinator at NAYA Family Center is a collaborative role focused on community organizing and justice reform. This position aims to engage the Cully neighborhood, law enforcement, and local government in exploring alternative public safety approaches to address lower-level crimes, reflecting community needs and values. The coordinator will facilitate communication among project partners, develop outreach plans, and ensure alignment with project goals while fostering relationships with community members and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a member of the Reimagining Justice Leadership Team.
  • Act as project coordinator for the RJC project, setting plans and timelines and helping others to meet their project commitments.
  • Work closely with NAYA leadership and keep them informed routinely.
  • Develop strong relationships with project partners, including Multnomah County's Local Public Safety Council and community organizations.
  • Facilitate regular communication and coordination between project partners to ensure smooth implementation and progress towards project goals.
  • Develop a community outreach plan to reach Cully residents and community members who have not been heard from before.
  • Utilize a human-centered design approach to engage Cully residents in identifying priorities and crafting community-led solutions.
  • Facilitate community engagement activities such as meetings, workshops, and focus groups.
  • Design new engagement activities creatively.
  • Establish mutually respectful relationships with members of the Portland Police Bureau.
  • Provide regular updates and reports to the Reimagining Justice Leadership Team, NAYA leadership, and other stakeholders.

Requirements

  • At least two years' experience in community organizing, community development, or justice reform.
  • Experience with historically marginalized/historically resilient communities.
  • Strong connection to the Cully community (ideal).
  • Experience with justice system reform and community safety (ideal).
  • Ability to facilitate group meetings and manage strong opinions.
  • Exceptional project management skills, including creating written project plans with milestones and due dates.
  • Experience writing reports and recommendations that are compelling.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working with police (helpful but not required).
  • Ability to speak another language.
