About the position

The Reimbursement Specialist (Medical Billing) at Cancer Care Specialists of Illinois is responsible for managing billing functions, including posting charges, processing insurance claims, and collecting accounts receivables. This role involves training staff, addressing patient inquiries, and resolving issues with third-party payors, all under the supervision of the Director of Business Office Services.

Responsibilities

  • Registers new patients and updates insurance and billing information.
  • Explains billing policies and insurance benefits to patients.
  • Generates documentation for patients with private cancer insurance policies.
  • Responds to patient inquiries and researches relevant information.
  • Serves as a resource for physicians and staff regarding insurance and billing issues.
  • Codes procedures and diagnoses for optimal reimbursement.
  • Reviews charts and abstracts data from patient records.
  • Posts charges for services including office visits and treatments.
  • Processes various insurance billing, including primary and secondary payors.
  • Verifies claim status and submits claims electronically.
  • Receives and posts payments and adjustments from various sources.
  • Balances receipts and prepares bank deposits.
  • Reviews and resolves returned or disputed claims with payors.
  • Generates aged account reports and follows up with payors for claim status.
  • Maintains knowledge of coding systems and compliance issues related to billing.
  • Maintains confidentiality and interacts professionally with patients and staff.
  • Participates in continuing education and quality improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Previous experience in medical billing, coding, and collections.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
  • Extensive knowledge of CPT-4, ICD-9/ICD-10 CM, and HCPCS coding systems.
  • Basic computer skills and knowledge of accounting and billing systems.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team under pressure.

Nice-to-haves

  • Teaching experience or knowledge of training techniques.
  • Experience with EPIC training and systems.
