About the position

In Capital One's Business Cards & Payments group, we are seeking a Relationship Manager for our Acquisitions team in Minneapolis. As a Relationship Manager, you will work closely with small and mid-sized business owners to foster long-term, meaningful relationships. Your primary goal will be to understand their business needs and help them optimize their B2B wallet through our payment solutions. You will employ a consultative approach to identify the right products that can enhance the rewards and benefits for our customers. This involves not only understanding their financial management challenges but also providing them with tools that can increase their profitability. We aspire to be trusted advisors to our clients, guiding them through the complexities of managing and growing their businesses. To achieve this, we have established field-based regional teams that engage with businesses in their communities, ensuring that we are accessible and responsive to their needs. As a Relationship Manager, you will be responsible for various aspects of the sales cycle, including developing a go-to-market business plan, identifying and qualifying leads, and cold-calling C-suite executives to set appointments. You will assess potential customers' needs and work with underwriting to evaluate risks, driving new account engagement. The ideal candidate will possess an entrepreneurial spirit, be highly organized, and have a proven track record of driving business results while delivering exceptional service. You will play a crucial role in helping small and mid-sized businesses thrive and grow in a competitive landscape.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and build new business opportunities in the assigned territory.
  • Develop a go-to-market business plan for sales initiatives.
  • Qualify leads and set appointments through cold-calling C-suite executives.
  • Assess the needs of potential customers using a consultative approach.
  • Work with underwriting to evaluate risk for new accounts.
  • Drive new account engagement and customer acquisition.
  • Use insight and consultative selling techniques to teach prospective customers about payment solutions.
  • Analyze total business spend of small and mid-sized businesses to identify additional opportunities.
  • Assist businesses in incorporating our products into their purchasing platforms and bookkeeping software.
  • Maintain and update CRM systems regarding sales calls, pipelines, and closed sales to ensure data compliance.
  • Initiate and participate in educational and networking events to engage with the local business community.
  • Establish relationships with 'Centers of Influence' to enhance community engagement.
  • Drive incremental charge volume on the card with new clients.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of sales experience.
  • Proven experience hunting for net new business in a field sales environment.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, telephone, and PC skills.
  • Excellent needs-based oral presentation skills.
  • Ability to secure appointments directly with clients and new prospects.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 5 years of outside customer sales experience as an individual contributor.
  • 1 year of experience working with small and mid-sized business customers.
  • 1 year of experience in the financial industry.
  • Proficiency using Salesforce.com.
  • Proficiency using Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Gmail).
