About the position

The Relationship Manager, Business Development & Labor Liaison at United Way of Rhode Island plays a crucial role in fostering and maintaining relationships with corporate partners and local labor unions. This position is integral to the Corporate Relations team, focusing on the growth and retention of corporate partnerships across various business sectors. The individual in this role will act as a key representative for local labor unions, ensuring that United Way of Rhode Island's initiatives align with the needs and goals of these organizations. The Relationship Manager will be responsible for activating the strategic plan of United Way, which aims to enhance philanthropic giving, volunteerism, and corporate social responsibility (CSR) outcomes within partner organizations. In this capacity, the Relationship Manager will independently manage a portfolio of corporate accounts, contributing to sustainable revenue growth through the prospecting of new accounts, nurturing established relationships, and reactivating lapsed corporate donors. The role involves developing tailored experiences for partners, which may include volunteer opportunities, events, and other engagement strategies that resonate with the organizations' philanthropic goals. Regular participation in local labor meetings is essential to stay informed about the needs of labor unions and to make strategic recommendations that support their engagement with United Way. The position reports to the Director of Corporate Relations and requires ongoing communication and updates regarding engagement with current and prospective corporate donors. The Relationship Manager will also be responsible for monitoring revenue and expense budgets, ensuring that financial goals are met while maintaining a deep understanding of United Way of Rhode Island's strategic plan, programs, and community impact.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement strategic growth plans to acquire new corporate donors and sponsors and maintain existing accounts to meet or exceed revenue goals.
  • Prospect new corporate partners to make unrestricted donations that support community investments and marquee events like Power the Future.
  • Maintain and grow United Way of Rhode Island relationships amongst the local labor unions.
  • Identify and secure new business opportunities by leveraging existing relationships and developing new ones with corporations and organizations, including profit and non-profit entities, state agencies, and local municipalities.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to create customized sponsorship opportunities that meet the sponsor's needs and align with our mission, vision, values, and priorities.
  • Serve as the primary relationship manager for assigned corporate accounts and identify opportunities for growth and deeper engagement.
  • Ensure sponsor benefits are fulfilled timely and effectively in partnership with Marketing & Communications and other pertinent departments.
  • Launch and manage impact groups to engage United Way alumni and business leaders in person and via virtual platforms like Teams and Zoom.
  • Monitor revenue and expense budgets and partner with the appropriate leader to adjust plans and strategies to achieve financial goals.
  • Maintain a deep understanding of United Way of Rhode Island's strategic plan, programs and services, annual priorities, and community impact.

Requirements

  • Proven track record of identifying, acquiring, and managing corporate sponsorships and partnerships.
  • Excellent interpersonal, collaboration, thought partner, negotiation, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Experience with enabling productivity tools such as Microsoft 365 and Asana and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) platforms.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, bilingual in Spanish a plus.
  • Ability to understand and navigate complex corporate structures and decision-making processes.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Experience managing people and leading teams to achieve high performance.
  • Knowledge of the Rhode Island business community and non-profit landscape is a plus.
  • Experience in fundraising, business development, sales, or other related fields.
  • A Bachelor's degree or similar training in business, marketing, or related fields is a plus.
