About the position

The Relay Technician II position at Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) is a full-time role focused on the installation, maintenance, and repair of protective relays and related electrical equipment. This intermediate-level position requires technical knowledge and skills to ensure the reliability of the electric grid in Central Texas. The technician will work both independently and as part of a team, providing technical support and troubleshooting electrical systems while adhering to safety and quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical equipment and systems.
  • Install, maintain, and test protective relays and other electrical equipment.
  • Provide technical support to other LCRA employees and customers.
  • Maintain and update knowledge of electrical protection testing principles and practices.
  • Work independently and as part of a team.
  • Meet all safety and quality standards.

Requirements

  • Three or more years of experience in the construction and/or maintenance of power substation protection, diagnostic, monitoring and/or control systems or other relevant experience.
  • A degree in electrical power theory, electronics, instrumentation, controls, computer science or relevant field may be substituted per LCRA guidelines for certain years of experience.
  • Valid Driver's License.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in commissioning and maintaining protective devices in electric transmission substations operating above 69kV.
  • Experience with electro-mechanical and microprocessor-based protective relays.
  • Experience with Doble F6150 test sets and Enoserv RTS testing software.
