About the position

Molex, a leader in the optical industry, is seeking a Reliability Engineer to join our team in Carlsbad, CA. This position is pivotal in ensuring the reliability of our optical products, particularly optical cross-connect switches, which are developed and manufactured in Fremont, CA. The Reliability Engineer will be responsible for overseeing all reliability-related activities during the research and development phase of our optical products tailored for the telecom and datacom industries. This role requires collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams, including sales and marketing, product line managers, and various engineering teams, to ensure that our fiber optical products meet the highest standards of quality and reliability. In this role, you will cooperate closely with the development team to monitor the reliability validation plan of new products, ensuring compliance with customer requirements and industry standards. You will plan and conduct Telcordia testing across all product lines, ensuring that all lab and test equipment is properly maintained and calibrated. Your analytical skills will be put to use as you perform database maintenance for all tests and results, analyze data for trends using JMP software, and conduct physics of failure mechanisms. Additionally, you will perform accelerated life testing to determine lifetime calculations and predictions, conduct Design for Reliability (DfR) exercises, and work with project leaders to identify design risks from a reliability perspective. The Reliability Engineer will also develop reliability assessment plans for product lifecycle in real application conditions, assist engineers in failure analysis during product development and manufacturing stages, and write reliability reports in accordance with Telcordia and other standards. This position is essential for maintaining the integrity and performance of our innovative optical solutions, ensuring that we continue to meet the evolving needs of our global clients in the telecom and datacom sectors.

Responsibilities

  • Cooperate with the development team to monitor reliability validation plan of new products according to product characteristics and customer requirements.
  • Plan and conduct all Telcordia testing for all product lines.
  • Ensure all lab and test equipment is in working condition and calibrated.
  • Perform database maintenance for all tests and test results.
  • Analyze all data for trends using JMP software.
  • Perform physics of failure mechanisms.
  • Conduct accelerated life testing to determine lifetime calculations and perform lifetime prediction analysis.
  • Conduct Design for Reliability (DfR) exercises.
  • Work with project leaders to identify design risks from the view of reliability and help perform thorough DFMEA.
  • Develop the reliability assessment plan of product lifecycle in real application conditions.
  • Assist engineers in failure analysis during product development and manufacturing stages.
  • Write reliability reports as per Telcordia and other standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in quality engineering, material science, reliability engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a similar discipline.
  • Experience with quality and reliability tools, technologies, and methods, such as FMEA, Six Sigma, FRACAS, and/or 8D.
  • At least 5 years of experience in a reliability-focused role.
  • Experience with reliability engineering principles and reliability test procedures.
  • Experience with statistical process control.
