Relief Driver

About the position

The Relief Driver - CDL (B) is responsible for the safe operation of a collection truck, providing efficient waste removal services to customers. This role involves ensuring vehicle compliance with safety standards, adhering to regulations, and completing daily vehicle condition reports. The driver interacts courteously with customers and is tasked with monitoring waste conditions and maintaining operational readiness of the vehicle.

Responsibilities

• Perform complete pre- and post-operation inspection of the vehicle in accordance with Company policy.
• Safely operate the heavy truck along the designated route and to the disposal site.
• Operate manual and/or automatic controls to lift and load refuse and dispose of collected material.
• Interact courteously with customers, dispatchers, and others to ensure timely service.
• Identify and tag unsatisfactory waste containers according to departmental procedures.
• Monitor waste for evidence of unacceptable materials.
• Clean areas around accidental waste spills, adhering to safety standards.
• Continuously monitor the vehicle's condition to ensure operational readiness.
• Complete required route/productivity sheets, VCRs, and other reports.
• Maintain adherence to required productivity standards for timely customer service.
• Follow all required safety policies and procedures.
• Actively participate in the Company's ReSOP program.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Good customer service skills to meet and exceed customer expectations.
• Good time management skills to ensure responsibilities are completed efficiently and safely.
• Ability to adhere to Company policies and promote safety standards.
• Two years of prior experience driving commercial trucks preferred.
• Class B or higher Commercial Driver's license with air brakes endorsement.
