About the position

The position is responsible for performing complex engineering work activities and projects that require the application of engineering knowledge in a safe, effective, efficient, and economic manner. The role is remote, preferably located in states within AEP's service territory, including OH, WV, VA, KY, TN, IN, MI, OK, TX, LA, AR, with other locations considered based on payroll, tax, and benefits. The opportunity may be filled at either the Engineer Principal (grade 9) or Engineer Sr. (grade 8) level, depending on the candidate's education and experience. Geotechnical Engineering experience is preferred as the position primarily supports AEP's hydroelectric dams.

Responsibilities

• Managing and administering AEP's Dam Safety Programs.
• Communicating with regulatory agencies regarding dam remediation projects, inspections, and critical risk assessments to ensure public safety.
• Coordinating, managing, and witnessing FERC-mandated inspections & certifications.
• Providing technical oversight of dam safety improvement projects and managing technical consultants.
• Supporting Hydro Operations in the development and execution of Emergency Action Plans & Public Safety Plans.
• Coordinating hydro dam and reservoir management programs, permitting, and compliance activities.
• Providing dam safety training to plant personnel and key internal stakeholders.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program or equivalent experience.
• 6 or more years of related engineering experience or 4 years with a Master's/Doctorate degree in engineering.
• Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in any U.S. state or Puerto Rico is preferred.

Nice-to-haves

• Geotechnical Engineering experience.
• PE License preferred for Engineer Sr. level.
