About the position

As a Civil Structural Engineer specializing in Forensic Engineering, you will play a crucial role in managing forensic engineering assignments and conducting thorough investigations and evaluations. This position is primarily remote, serving the Tupelo, Oxford, Jackson, and Gulfport areas in Mississippi. You will be responsible for providing detailed findings to a diverse clientele, including attorneys, insurance carriers, property managers, associations, and risk managers. Your expertise in structural engineering will be essential as you articulate complex technical concepts clearly in forensic reports, ensuring that your findings are both accurate and comprehensible. In this role, you will leverage your knowledge of structural systems, including both low-rise and high-rise structures, as well as foundation design, analysis, and construction. You will perform structural calculations, either manually or using spreadsheets, to support your findings, and you may also create and utilize structural models with proprietary analysis software when necessary. Your ability to research design manuals, local and state building codes, and ordinances will be vital in ensuring compliance and accuracy in your evaluations. You will conduct inspections of various structures, including single-family residences and commercial buildings, examining exterior facades, crawlspaces, attics, and roofs. Your investigations will focus on determining the cause and origin of structural collapses, failures, damages, and defects resulting from a wide range of perils. Following these investigations, you will prepare forensic investigation reports in accordance with the guidance of the Engineer of Record, ensuring that all project deadlines are met, even under tight timelines. This position requires a proactive approach, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work independently while also being a team player in larger project settings.

Responsibilities

  • Manage forensic engineering assignments and conduct investigations and evaluations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's and/or Master's Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • 5 - 8 years of experience in Structural and/or Forensic Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License in the State of Mississippi (Required).
  • Working knowledge of structural systems and foundation design, analysis, and construction.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to articulate advanced technical concepts in writing.
  • Capable of working under minimal supervision and resolving issues independently based on project requirements.
  • Team Player mentality with the ability to work on large projects with multiple team members.
  • Strong organizational skills, updated notes, and compliance with timeline requirements.
  • Ability to learn independently and maintain a desire to improve your craft.
