About the position

The Remote Cloud Database Engineer position is a contractor role based in St. Louis, Missouri, focusing on developing and maintaining cloud database infrastructure and solutions. The primary responsibility of this role is to create reusable infrastructure-as-code (IaC) and configuration-as-code (CaC) solutions specifically for AWS database infrastructure. This includes building pipelines that support database management and data handling, ensuring that the infrastructure is robust and scalable to meet the needs of the organization. In addition to infrastructure development, the engineer will support the development and maintenance of continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) tools. This is crucial for application delivery teams as it enhances their productivity and accelerates software delivery processes. The role requires collaboration with engineering and data teams to deliver solutions that meet both business and technical requirements, ensuring that the final products align with user needs and expectations. The engineer will utilize Agile methodologies and Product Management frameworks to iteratively improve platform offerings, adapting to the evolving requirements of users. A key aspect of this position is applying FinOps best practices to optimize operational performance and manage infrastructure costs effectively. Staying current with the latest cloud services, emerging technologies, and best practices is essential to foster a culture of learning and innovation within the Information Technology Division and across the Federal Reserve System.

Responsibilities

  • Develop reusable infrastructure-as-code (IaC) and configuration-as-code (CaC) solutions for AWS database infrastructure and pipelines for database support and data management.
  • Support development and maintenance of CI/CD tools to help application delivery teams improve their productivity and accelerate their software delivery.
  • Work with engineering and data teams to deliver solutions that satisfy business and technical requirements.
  • Use Agile methodologies and Product Management frameworks to iteratively improve the platform offerings and adapt to the changing needs of our users.
  • Apply FinOps best practices to optimize operational performance and infrastructure costs.
  • Keep current on latest cloud services, emerging technologies, and best practices to help foster a learning and innovative culture within the Information Technology Division and across the Federal Reserve System.

Requirements

  • Experience designing Infrastructure-as-Code (AWS CloudFormation, AWS CDK, Terraform) to support AWS databases and data services is required.
  • Experience delivering cloud database solutions, including AWS RDS (Oracle and Postgres) is required.
  • Experience using modern CI/CD pipelines using DevOps tooling (e.g. GitLab, Git/Bitbucket, Bamboo, Maven, Nexus, Fortify) is required.
  • Experience scripting in Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, or other scripting language and using AWS Lambda is required.
  • Experience with AWS Redshift is required.
  • Proficient in Agile development practices is required.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an information technology field (e.g., Computer/Management Information Systems), or an equivalent combination of related education and work experience is required.
  • Typically requires at least 5+ years of relevant and progressive information technology experience related to all aspects of cloud solutions.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with AWS data services (Glue, EMR, etc.) is preferred.
  • Understanding of zero-trust architectures, and FinOps & observability platforms is preferred.
  • Familiarity with encryption (at rest, in transit, etc.) is preferred.
  • Experience developing end-to-end AWS native platform for building data services (S3, Glue (Crawlers, ETL, Catalog), CloudTrail, CloudWatch, AWS Config, Guard Duty, Secrets Manager, KMS, EC2, Data Visualization Tool (WebFOCUS, Tableau, AWS Quicksight), Athena is preferred.
  • Experience collaborating with government entities is preferred.
