About the position

The College of Applied Human Sciences (CAHS) at West Virginia University is seeking a dedicated and skilled Instructional Designer for a remote position. This role is pivotal in enhancing the quality of online education by collaborating with faculty and staff to produce engaging and effective instructional materials. The Instructional Designer will be responsible for developing course materials that are functional, intuitive, informative, and aligned with established instructional design principles. This includes providing recommendations for interface design, sequencing of instruction, assessments, and the overall design of course materials and activities. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational and interpersonal skills, enabling them to make independent decisions while leading projects and delegating tasks within a team. The position requires a positive and energetic individual who can effectively collaborate with various stakeholders to ensure the successful delivery of online courses. The Instructional Designer will also play a crucial role in managing course shells within the Learning Management System (LMS), ensuring consistency and ease of navigation for users. This includes troubleshooting technical issues, facilitating transitions to newer LMS versions, and providing ongoing support to instructors and content creators. In addition to course design and development, the Instructional Designer will engage in continuous quality improvement initiatives, lead training for program instructors, and explore marketing strategies to enhance student retention and recruitment. Responsibilities

  • Create and manage course shells within the LMS, ensuring consistency, organization, and ease of navigation for users.
  • Collaborate with instructors and content creators to upload, update, and organize course materials.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve any technical issues related to course shells and user access.
  • Facilitate the transition process from the existing LMS to newer versions, ensuring minimal disruptions to ongoing learning activities.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including IT, training coordinators, and subject matter experts, to plan and execute LMS migration strategy.
  • Offer ongoing support to address questions, concerns, and technical issues related to the LMS.
  • Plan, design, develop, and deploy instructional materials in an online format.
  • Promote continuous quality improvements to courses and programs, lead program instructor training, and explore marketing strategies that will promote program content and assist with student retention and recruitment.
