About the position

The Insurance Counselor at DaVita plays a vital, patient-centered role by providing education and guidance to patients regarding health insurance options. This position aims to alleviate the stress that dialysis patients face when navigating complex insurance choices and employment decisions while managing their healthcare needs. The counselor will build trust with patients and teammates, gaining expertise in motivational interviewing and knowledge of health insurance benefits and financial assistance programs.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts patient insurance education while adhering to compliance parameters.
  • Identifies and communicates opportunities to improve patients' insurance status.
  • Provides information to help patients secure insurance coverage and financial assistance.
  • Delivers high-level customer service across multiple DaVita Dialysis facilities.
  • Completes insurance assessments to document patient education sessions accurately.
  • Acts as a liaison between patients, facility teammates, and the corporate office to resolve insurance issues.
  • Builds and maintains relationships with field partners for seamless patient support.
  • Works with supervisors to meet objectives and reporting requirements related to patient education.
  • Provides monthly reporting and analysis on key metrics related to patient education and advocacy.
  • Seeks opportunities for process improvement and discusses ideas with the team and leadership.
  • Attends team meetings and may assist with onboarding new teammates.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Minimum of two years' experience working with Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance plans is strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of two years' experience in a healthcare organization working with clinical staff and patients is preferred.
  • Intermediate computer skills and proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook are required.
  • Basic computer skills and a private workspace with high-speed internet (minimum of 40 GB) are required.
  • Full vaccination against COVID-19 or a medical/religious exemption is required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bilingual/Spanish speaking is strongly preferred.
