About the position

The Lead Consultant (Cloud Security Engineer) at Apex Systems is a pivotal role responsible for assessing, designing, implementing, and advising on secure cloud technologies and services for clients across the US and Canada. This position requires strong consultative skills and technical expertise in cloud security, focusing on delivering innovative solutions while ensuring compliance with industry standards. The role also involves leading project teams and providing guidance on cloud security architecture and infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Assess, design, and develop security controls for cloud platforms (PaaS, SaaS, IaaS).
  • Provide subject matter expertise on securing cloud architecture and infrastructure based on best practices within AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud Platform.
  • Design, evaluate, and implement security tools with an emphasis on automation.
  • Implement and advocate for Zero Trust Architecture principles.
  • Assess clients' current cloud security posture and provide viable solution paths.
  • Review new cloud technologies for security implications and risks.
  • Provide architectural security guidance in compliance with industry standards.
  • Conduct security assessments and risk analysis to identify vulnerabilities.
  • Design and implement network segmentation strategies and secure access controls.
  • Collaborate with network and infrastructure teams to integrate security measures.
  • Manage and/or lead a team of cloud security engineers.
  • Maintain awareness of trends and changes in the cybersecurity industry.

Requirements

  • 6+ years hands-on experience in development, deployment, and automation of security solutions in large enterprise environments with AWS, Google Cloud Platform, and/or Azure.
  • 5+ years of experience overseeing teams or in a leadership role.
  • Experience using security frameworks for gap assessments between cloud providers and compliance efforts.
  • Experience with secure development and vulnerability scanning using automation configuration tools.
  • Experience with log management and correlation tools.
  • Experience creating a cloud security roadmap with estimates for complexity and cost.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud network security, including VPC design and secure communication protocols.
  • Familiarity with cloud-native security services and features.
  • Experience managing a backlog and delivery team of technical and non-technical professionals.
  • Experience with container-based environments.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to influence others and manage conflicts.
  • Leadership experience and executive level communication skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Technical and non-technical cloud-related certifications.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of data classification solutions.
  • Familiarity with DevSecOps and Agile methodologies.
