About the position

The Structural Engineer (SE) at Above Group is responsible for contributing to the engineering efforts of the firm by applying their knowledge and technical experience to produce quality designs. The SE will lead and mentor subordinate staff, ensuring the growth of the team while executing design duties to maintain high standards. This role requires a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) and Structural Engineer (SE) with expertise in various structural systems and design software.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to engineering efforts by applying knowledge and technical experience to produce quality designs.
  • Lead and mentor subordinate staff to enhance their capabilities and contributions.
  • Execute design duties to ensure quality is maintained throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Implement design criteria and research applicable codes for structural systems.
  • Collaborate with team members across disciplines to coordinate structural systems.
  • Perform system calculations and size/select system components as needed.
  • Review shop drawing submittals and conduct field verification at job sites.
  • Author technical documents such as basis of design narratives and feasibility studies.
  • Maintain project design files and respond to Requests for Information (RFIs).
  • Prepare meeting notes and ensure deadlines are met as required by client demands.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering and a master's degree with a structural emphasis or equivalent from an ABET accredited institution.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) and Structural Engineer (SE) with current NCEES registration.
  • Minimum of 5 years of post-degree experience in structural engineering.
  • Operational experience in design software including REVIT and AutoCAD.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Additional credentials beyond PE and SE licenses are encouraged and desired.
  • Experience with conventional steel buildings, concrete, masonry, light gauge, and wood structures.
  • Proficiency in using computer software such as Staad, Tedds, and Excel.
