About the position

We are seeking a Remote Civil Engineer to join our team, a leader in the Property Insurance Intelligence Industry with over 70 years of experience. Our mission is to provide actionable intelligence for challenging questions regarding property and property contents. This role involves conducting site studies to evaluate damages to building materials or components in both residential and commercial structures. You will assess various elements such as roof systems, foundations, water intrusion, cladding elements, construction defects, and complete structural systems. Your findings will be documented in detailed technical reports that accurately reflect the results of your investigations. In addition to technical assessments, you will be responsible for providing excellent customer service to both internal and external clients. On occasion, you may be required to provide expert testimony or depositions related to the projects you are assigned to, supported by our dedicated Litigation Department. We encourage our engineers to pursue additional training, mentoring opportunities, licenses, education, and certifications, with costs covered by the company. This position may require travel for assigned work outside of your home region, including daily and overnight travel for facilitating investigations. Responsibilities

  • Conduct site studies evaluating damages to building materials or components for residential and commercial structures.
  • Write technical reports that provide detailed and accurate findings and conclusions related to completed site investigations.
  • Provide excellent customer service to company internal and external customers.
  • Occasionally provide expert testimony or depositions as needed on assigned projects.
  • Proactively pursue additional training, mentoring opportunities, licenses, education, and/or certifications, with costs covered by the company.
  • Travel may be required for assigned work outside of your home region, including daily and overnight in-region travel for investigations.

Requirements

  • BS Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering or related engineering disciplines (Mechanical, Electrical, etc.).
  • Registered as an active Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the State of Maryland.
  • Have an active NCEES record or be eligible to obtain it within 90 days of employment.
  • 2-3 years of experience in failure analysis, forensic or structural inspection, knowledge of residential and/or commercial construction, building codes, design, or related experience is highly preferred.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Strong technical writing abilities with experience using Microsoft Word.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.).
