About the position

The Renewable Energy Technician 3 position at EDF Renewables North America involves performing unsupervised field maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on renewable energy generators. This role requires knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems, and the technician is expected to demonstrate proficiency in using advanced diagnostic tools and understanding system software. The Technician 3 may lead teams on routine tasks and is responsible for ensuring safety and compliance with industry standards while working in a collaborative team environment focused on delivering renewable energy solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Perform unsupervised corrective and preventative maintenance on utility-scale renewable energy assets, plants, and energy storage systems.
  • Conduct routine testing and troubleshooting of electrical systems, including live electrical work following safety practices.
  • Inspect and maintain high voltage systems, including substation collection and distribution systems, and perform NERC inspections.
  • Recommission renewable energy assets and energy storage systems, conducting various performance tests and evaluations.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to support continuous improvement initiatives for PV and BESS systems.
  • Train and oversee lower-level technicians, ensuring their competency in maintenance tasks.
  • Conduct site safety assessments and lead daily safety meetings, ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
  • Complete daily maintenance logs, service orders, and other required administrative documentation.
  • Participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation to monitor systems and identify performance errors.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 2+ years of renewable energy experience (Wind, Solar, and/or Battery Energy Storage System).
  • Successful completion of the Technician 2 Standard or equivalent external experience is required.
  • Valid current driver's license and ability to operate motor vehicles.
  • Working knowledge of the National Electric Code and OSHA regulations.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a technical role with participation in team projects.
  • Informal leadership experience.
  • Familiarity with testing and measuring equipment such as multimeters and infrared cameras.
