About the position

The Renewable Energy, Technology & Engineering Planning (RETEP) Manager position is a senior engineering management role within the OC Waste & Recycling (OCWR) department. This position is responsible for leading a team of engineers and specialists to support renewable energy initiatives and ensure compliance with California State Bill-1383, which mandates organic waste diversion. The RETEP Manager will oversee the planning and implementation of renewable energy projects, manage contracts, and advocate for the department's goals before various stakeholders. This role is crucial for optimizing existing infrastructure and planning for future renewable energy systems.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direction to the Department regarding renewable energy program development opportunities
  • Develop metrics and implement efficient solutions for optimizing OCWR's renewable energy system
  • Co-administer third-party contractors, ensuring contract compliance and quality control
  • Assist in the development and implementation of agreements and pursue additional renewable energy projects
  • Manage vendor relationships and related matters
  • Present and advocate for OCWR's initiatives to stakeholders
  • Lead the Planning & Renewable Energy Unit in developing effective renewable energy plans and policies
  • Manage landfill gas to energy contracts and ensure performance against KPIs
  • Provide engineering direction related to planning and technology integration
  • Oversee preparation and review of designs, reports, and technical studies
  • Ensure compliance with engineering practices and principles
  • Manage unit projects and operational strategies to achieve performance goals
  • Prepare and present information to internal and external stakeholders
  • Approve engineering drawings for construction as needed

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or related field
  • Ten (10) years of related professional engineering management experience
  • Ten (10) years of lead or supervisory experience
  • State of California Licensed Professional Engineer Registration (PE) in relevant engineering field
  • Valid California Driver's License, Class C or higher

Nice-to-haves

  • Certification as a Renewable Energy Manager (REP) or Certified Energy Manager (CEM)
  • Master's degree in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or related field
