About the position

The Strategic Account Representative (SAR) plays a crucial role in building partnerships within K-12 education, focusing on public school districts. This position is responsible for implementing sales strategies, developing strategic account plans, and collaborating with various team members to achieve sales objectives. The SAR will utilize consultative selling techniques to enhance market penetration and promote School Specialty's 21st Century Safe School value proposition, ultimately aiming to positively impact student success.

Responsibilities

  • Implement the sales plan for an assigned set of strategic customers, consisting of approximately 75-150 public school districts.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of a Strategic Account Plan based on relevant information gathered on the district.
  • Develop Strategic Account Plans containing specific objectives for each of the Strategic Product Categories.
  • Promote the School Specialty 21st Century Safe School value proposition through insight and design.
  • Utilize SSI's full product offerings to grow and penetrate accounts by collaborating with Category Specialists and vendor representatives.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with various levels of contacts within the respective Strategic Account.
  • Participate in a coordinated Team Sell strategy to further Strategic Account Plan objectives.
  • Maximize effectiveness through the use of tools and resources to drive business and address opportunities.
  • Manage a travel & entertainment budget and other business expenses related to the role.
  • Complete ongoing proficiency and professional development training.

Requirements

  • 2-5 years of successful outside sales experience required.
  • Valid driver's license and insurance in a program-compliant automobile.

Nice-to-haves

  • 4-year college degree (Business, Marketing or Education preferred) or equivalent work experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite with an emphasis on Excel.
  • Proficiency in the use of CRM (e.g., SalesForce.com).
  • Sales Process Skills - time management, territory management, financial management, and question and probing skills.
