About the position

WQRF FOX 39 and WTVO Channel 17 in Rockford, Illinois is looking for a full-time News Reporter/MultiMedia Journalist. This role involves producing, reporting, shooting, writing, voicing, editing, and feeding news production content across various platforms. The position aims to deliver clear, engaging, and meaningful news stories to the audience.

Responsibilities

  • Produce, report, shoot, write, voice, edit, and feed news production content for all platforms.
  • Report news stories for broadcast, detailing the background and events.
  • Arrange interviews with individuals who can provide information about stories.
  • Review copy and correct errors in content, grammar, and punctuation according to editorial style.
  • Evaluate notes taken about events to isolate pertinent facts and details.
  • Determine a story's emphasis, length, and format, organizing material accordingly.
  • Research and analyze background information related to news stories for accuracy.
  • Gather information about events through research, interviews, and attendance at functions.
  • Pitch relevant stories to news managers and producers.
  • Receive assignments and evaluate leads to develop story ideas.
  • Discuss issues with producers and news managers to establish priorities.
  • Check reference materials to obtain relevant facts.
  • Revise work to meet editorial approval or fit time requirements.
  • Shoot and edit news events and reports.
  • Produce and present reports for all platforms.
  • Ensure all content meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality.
  • Write stories for the web and other eMedia platforms.
  • Interact with viewers/users on social media sites.
  • Perform special projects and other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Broadcast Journalism or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to ad lib when required.
  • Minimum two years' experience in news reporting, depending on market size.
  • Superior on-air presence.
  • Proficiency with computers and office equipment.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Valid driver's license with a good driving record.
  • Flexibility to work any shift.
