About the position

The WRIC Multimedia Journalist Reporter is responsible for producing, reporting, shooting, writing, voicing, editing, and feeding news production content across various platforms. The role emphasizes clarity, engagement, and meaningful storytelling for news consumers, ensuring that all content adheres to journalistic integrity and production quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Reports news stories for broadcast, describing the background and details of events.
  • Arranges interviews with individuals who can provide information about stories.
  • Reviews copy and corrects errors in content, grammar, and punctuation, following editorial style guidelines.
  • Evaluates notes taken about events to isolate pertinent facts and details.
  • Determines a story's emphasis, length, and format, organizing material accordingly.
  • Researches and analyzes background information related to news stories for accuracy.
  • Gathers information about events through research, interviews, and attendance at various functions.
  • Pitches relevant stories to news managers and producers.
  • Receives assignments and evaluates leads to develop story ideas.
  • Discusses issues with producers and news managers to establish priorities.
  • Checks reference materials to obtain relevant facts.
  • Revises work to meet editorial approval or fit time requirements.
  • Shoots and edits news events and reports.
  • Reports solo live shots using TVU backpack and TVU Anywhere mobile.
  • Produces and presents reports for all platforms.
  • Writes stories for the web and other digital platforms.
  • Interacts with viewers/users on social media sites.
  • Performs special projects and other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • College degree in Broadcast Journalism or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to ad lib.
  • Minimum two years' experience in news reporting, depending on market size.
  • Superior on-air presence.
  • Proficiency with computers and office equipment.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Valid driver's license with a good driving record.
  • Flexibility to work any shift, including overnights and weekends.
