About the position

The Multimedia Journalist Reporter is responsible for producing, reporting, shooting, writing, voicing, editing, and feeding news production content across all platforms. This role requires a clear, engaging, and meaningful approach to news reporting that resonates with news consumers. The reporter will cover news stories for broadcast, providing detailed descriptions of events and their backgrounds. This includes arranging interviews with individuals who can provide valuable insights into the stories being reported. In addition to reporting, the Multimedia Journalist will review and correct errors in content, grammar, and punctuation, adhering to prescribed editorial style and formatting guidelines. The reporter will evaluate notes taken during events to isolate pertinent facts and details, determining the emphasis, length, and format of stories while organizing material accordingly. Researching and analyzing background information related to news stories is crucial to ensure the provision of complete and accurate information. The role also involves gathering information about events through various means, including research, interviews, and attendance at political, news, sports, artistic, and social functions. The reporter will pitch relevant stories to news managers and producers, receive assignments, and evaluate leads and tips to develop story ideas. Collaboration with producers and news managers is essential to establish priorities and positions on various issues. The reporter will check reference materials such as books, news files, or public records to obtain relevant facts and revise work to meet editorial approval or fit time requirements. Shooting and editing news events and reports, producing and presenting content for all platforms, and ensuring that all material meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality are key responsibilities. The Multimedia Journalist will also write stories for web and other eMedia platforms, interact with viewers and users on social media, and perform special projects and other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Gather information about events through research, interviews, and attendance at various functions.
  • Pitch stories to news managers and producers relevant to the local community.
  • Receive assignments and evaluate leads and tips to develop story ideas.
  • Discuss issues with producers and/or news managers to establish priorities or positions.
  • Check reference materials such as books, news files, or public records to obtain relevant facts.
  • Revise work to meet editorial approval or to fit time requirements.
  • Shoot and edit news events and news reports.
  • Produce and present reports for all platforms.
  • Ensure that all content meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality.
  • Write stories for the web and other eMedia platforms.
  • Interact with viewers/users on social media sites.
  • Perform special projects and other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Broadcast Journalism or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to ad lib when required.
  • Minimum two years' experience in news reporting, depending on market size.
  • Superior on-air presence.
  • Proficiency with computers, telephones, copiers, scanners, fax machines, and other office equipment.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Valid driver's license with a good driving record.
  • Flexibility to work any shift.
