About the position

WBZ-TV in Boston is looking for a creative, energetic, and experienced Reporter/Multi-Skilled Journalist to join our team. This role is essential for delivering high-quality news content across TV and all digital platforms. The ideal candidate will bring innovative story ideas, cultivate sources, and effectively engage with our audience through social media. A passion for local news is crucial, as is the ability to connect with viewers and users on our vibrant digital platforms. The successful candidate will be responsible for shooting and editing high-quality videos that tell compelling stories for both broadcast and streaming audiences. In this position, you will be expected to shoot, write, edit, and report news stories for WBZ-TV. This includes turning content, performing multiple live shots, writing copy for the station's website, and utilizing all social media channels to promote your assignments. You will need to perform high-energy, engaging live shots as assigned and consistently develop and implement enterprise stories. Regularly supplying news content to the station's social media and digital platforms is also a key responsibility. A strong commitment to accuracy, fairness, and ethics is essential, as is the ability to meet all daily production deadlines. You will need to demonstrate strong writing and reporting skills, with a proven ability to react to breaking news situations. As a skilled interviewer and creative storyteller, you will collaborate closely with a team of managers and take on other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

• Shoot, write, edit & report news stories for WBZ-TV.
• Turn content, perform multiple live shots, and write copy for the station website.
• Use all social media to promote assignments.
• Perform high-energy, engaging live shots as assigned.
• Develop and implement enterprise stories consistently.
• Regularly supply news content to the station's social media and digital platforms.
• Maintain dedication to accuracy, fairness, and ethics.
• Ensure meeting all daily production deadlines.
• Demonstrate strong writing and reporting skills; react to breaking news situations.
• Conduct interviews and create compelling stories.
• Collaborate with a team of managers on various projects.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• 5+ years reporting experience at a news organization with proven experience in the field.
• Bachelor's degree in broadcast journalism or a similar field preferred.
• Proven experience shooting and editing with small or mid-sized professional video cameras.
• Knowledge of social media and its use for promoting broadcast, streaming, and web content.
• Experience writing for the web is required.
• Knowledge of iNews rundown systems and Avid Media Composer editing preferred.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, early mornings, holidays, and weekends.
• Willingness to join SAG/AFTRA Union.
