About the position

The Reporter/Multimedia Journalist at Nexstar Broadcasting is responsible for connecting with the audience through impactful storytelling across various platforms. This role involves the full production cycle of news reports, including finding, shooting, writing, and editing content for web, broadcast, and social media. The journalist will conduct interviews, research background information, and pitch story ideas relevant to the local community, ensuring all content adheres to journalistic standards.

Responsibilities

  • Find, shoot, write, and edit engaging news reports for multiple platforms.
  • Conduct interviews with sources to gather information for stories.
  • Review and correct copy for content, grammar, and punctuation.
  • Present stories to news managers for review and approval.
  • Research and analyze background information related to news stories.
  • Gather information about events through research and attendance at functions.
  • Pitch enterprise story ideas to news managers and producers.
  • Evaluate leads and tips to develop story ideas.
  • Discuss issues with producers and news managers to establish priorities.
  • Revise work to meet editorial approval and time requirements.
  • Shoot and edit news events and reports.
  • Ensure all content meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality.
  • Interact with viewers on social media platforms.
  • Perform special projects and other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Broadcast Journalism or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Minimum one year of experience in news reporting.
  • Strong on-air presence.
  • Proficiency with computers, telephones, social media platforms, and office equipment.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Valid driver's license with a good driving record.
  • Flexibility to work any shift as news events demand.
