About the position

The Patient Financial Services Representative (PFSR) serves as the first point of contact for patients and guarantors in various healthcare settings. This role is crucial in gathering and verifying demographic, financial, and insurance eligibility information to ensure a smooth patient experience. The PFSR is responsible for providing exceptional customer service, addressing patient inquiries, and ensuring all necessary documentation is completed accurately.

Responsibilities

  • Provides exceptional customer service and ensures all questions and concerns are addressed in a timely and courteous manner.
  • Guides patients to appropriate destinations for services.
  • Obtains pre-certification and authorization for services.
  • Verifies insurance benefits and confirms coverage is active.
  • Explains policies and secures required signatures on consent forms.
  • Performs patient discharge functions, including reviewing after visit summaries and scheduling future appointments.
  • Interviews patients and guarantors to obtain necessary information and identification.
  • Confirms physician and prescription orders for accuracy.
  • Schedules walk-in appointments for services offered.
  • Collects patient out-of-pocket responsibilities and provides estimates as requested.
  • Prepares and balances daily deposits of all payment collections.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent (Required).
  • Excellent communication skills and critical thinking abilities.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision in a stressful environment.
  • One (1) year of related hospital, medical office, or customer service experience preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in specialty authorizations and patient care navigation.
  • Familiarity with handling incoming calls and physician back lines.
