About the position

The Registration Representative is responsible for efficiently processing inpatient and outpatient admissions, ensuring accurate data entry and compliance with registration procedures. This role emphasizes exemplary customer service and effective communication with patients and guardians, while also managing insurance verification and cash collections.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately gathers information and inputs data in all phases of the registration process.
  • Registers patients in a timely fashion.
  • Ensures that the patient or guardian signs all appropriate paperwork as outlined by procedure.
  • Offers Oaklawn Privacy Practices and the Patient Rights and Responsibilities brochure to all patients.
  • Verifies all appropriate insurance coverage for patients.
  • Obtains and scans patient driver's license and insurance cards as applicable.
  • Follows appropriate procedures for cash collections, including asking for and collecting on non-covered services and applicable co-pays and deductibles at the point of service.
  • Assures a payable diagnosis for all Medicare restricted tests or obtains an ABN from the patient if applicable.
  • Handles patient inquiries promptly and appropriately.
  • Balances cash receipts daily in a timely and accurate manner.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Computer experience and skills.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Organizational skills and customer service orientation.
  • Critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to problem solve and handle conflict.
  • Ability to adapt to frequent change.
  • Previous hospital registration and insurance verification experience preferred.
  • Ability to work with patients with varying degrees of illness.
