About the position

The Research Data Analyst position is part of the Mental Health Services and Policy Program (MHSPP) at Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine. This role focuses on improving the well-being of children and families relying on publicly funded mental health services through research, evaluations, and technical assistance. The analyst will manage data, ensure quality assurance, and provide analysis and reporting for the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services, generating actionable insights for stakeholders while adhering to regulatory guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize multiple quantitative and qualitative datasets from various sources and interpret results using statistical analysis and data mining techniques.
  • Assist in the design, development, and implementation of business solutions by partnering with clients to identify analytical requirements.
  • Compile reports, charts, and tables based on established statistical methods.
  • Develop standardized templates, policies, and procedures for internal and external reporting.
  • Complete a variety of statistical analyses using appropriate data and software.
  • Merge data from multiple sources in preparation for analysis.
  • Interpret results of analyses for use in reports and presentations.
  • Complete data cleaning and organize data files for analysis.
  • Review data and identify quality issues.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree; OR appropriate combination of education and experience.
  • Intermediate knowledge of programming languages like Python or R, and database tools like SQL and Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook).
  • Experience in PL/SQL, SQL/MySQL/Postgres, data mining, data modeling, and database design.

Nice-to-haves

  • Two years' experience working with structured data using common software applications.
  • Ability to analyze and visualize structured data using common software applications.
