About the position

The Research Admin. Financial Analyst position at UC San Diego involves managing pre and post-award research administration for a diverse portfolio of proposals and awards. The role requires a seasoned professional to ensure compliance with institutional policies and sponsor requirements while providing exceptional customer service to faculty and staff. This hybrid position supports the financial management of research activities within the Health Sciences sector, contributing to the overall mission of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Independently prepare and manage research proposals, awards, and transactions related to contract and grant management.
  • Perform full proposal development, administration, and analytical reporting for a multi-PI proposal portfolio.
  • Provide pre-award support for all funding mechanisms and sponsors, managing proposals and awards of diverse scope.
  • Conduct comprehensive post-award management, including allocation and expense monitoring, detailed reporting, and advisement to faculty.
  • Support the annual budget process by providing reports of pending funding and effort, and assist faculty in compliance with E-Cert.

Requirements

  • Seven (7) years of related experience or a Bachelor's degree in a related area plus three (3) years of related experience.
  • Thorough understanding of research administration guidelines of Federal and non-Federal sponsors, preferably in a university environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate RFP and RFA language of sponsors and advise investigators on requirements.
  • Proven efficiency and accuracy in preparing grant budgets of all types and understanding the grant proposal process from inception to completion.
  • Knowledge of compliance requirements related to human or animal subjects in research, financial conflict of interest, and biosafety.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of the Personnel Payroll System (PPS) policies and procedures.
  • Experience with UCSD online and web-based accounting systems (IFIS, FinancialLink, etc.).
  • Five (5) years of experience in a similar role.
