About the position

The Research Administration Coordinator at the Siebel School of Computing and Data Science is responsible for facilitating sponsored research goals through comprehensive pre-award and post-award grant administration. This role involves managing a portfolio of principal investigators, assisting in proposal preparation, ensuring compliance with sponsor guidelines, and mentoring junior staff. The position requires independent judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Support faculty on research proposal preparation, including internal routing of applications and development of electronic proposals.
  • Review and interpret sponsor guidelines to ensure compliance with deadlines and funding restrictions.
  • Advise faculty and staff on research agreements and proposal submission requirements according to university policy.
  • Assist in preparing proposal budgets and budget justifications.
  • Review proposal materials to ensure compliance with sponsor and university requirements before submission.
  • Act as a liaison with Sponsored Programs Administration (SPA) to resolve proposal issues and assist in grant negotiations.
  • Prepare financial reports and analyses to support faculty in managing their sponsored research projects.
  • Monitor grant spending plans and ensure compliance with sponsor and university policies.
  • Prepare and record journal entries related to sponsored projects and manage financial aspects post-award.
  • Mentor and train new staff members in research administration processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, accounting, finance, economics, or a related field.
  • Two years of progressive work experience in sponsored research administration in a large-scale institution.
  • Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Excel.
  • SPaRC'Ed Illini Certified Research Administrator certification.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field.
  • Experience in grants and contracts administration at the University of Illinois.
