About the position

The Research Administration Systems Analyst at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) is a key role within the Office of Research and Creative Achievement (ORCA). This position focuses on providing user support for electronic research administration (eRA) systems, coordinating activities within the RAS office, and improving research data management processes. The role offers a supportive environment with opportunities for professional development and a hybrid telework schedule.

Responsibilities

  • Provide user support to all offices under ORCA and campus personnel involved in sponsored research activities.
  • Assist in coordinating and implementing tasks to improve research data management processes.
  • Revise and draft new processes and procedures for research administration.
  • Develop data definitions and integration points for the research enterprise.
  • Analyze methods for data access and reporting using research enterprise systems or business intelligence tools.
  • Facilitate and document meetings with subject matter experts.
  • Formulate data access procedures balancing confidentiality, security, and accessibility.
  • Support new strategic initiatives in eRA to facilitate research goals.
  • Maintain a user-friendly website with comprehensive information about research guidelines and tools.
  • Develop and conduct training for staff and researchers on Kuali systems.
  • Collaborate with other ORCA units to ensure effective research business processes.
  • Engage with peer groups and extramural organizations to share strategic goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Knowledge in research administration, eRA systems, or related areas.
  • Experience in analyzing complex problems and determining effective resolutions.
  • Attention to detail and ability to prioritize activities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a positive customer service attitude.
  • Self-starter, highly organized, and quick learner capable of working independently and in a team.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in designing test plans for system enhancements or upgrades.
  • Familiarity with administrative policies and research administration systems in higher education.
  • Prior experience with Kuali or comparable systems.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local government funding policies and procedures.
