About the position

The Research Administrator 2 position at UCLA involves managing departmental funds for the Electrical Engineering Department. The role supports professors and research groups with purchasing, accounting, and contract and grant administration, ensuring compliance with university policies and effective financial management.

Responsibilities

  • Function as a department fund manager supporting the Electrical Engineering Department.
  • Assist professors and research groups with purchasing, accounting, and contract and grant administration.
  • Analyze and interpret purchasing, travel, and equipment management policies.
  • Develop procedures and make recommendations on purchases based on knowledge of purchasing rules and regulations.
  • Operate the UCLA BruinBuy purchasing system effectively.
  • Maintain confidentiality of records and information.
  • Interact effectively with faculty, staff, and outside vendors, maintaining composure in difficult situations.
  • Manage time to accomplish various tasks in a fast-paced office environment.
  • Organize files and maintain accurate records of transactions.
  • Perform financial analysis and prepare budgets, accounting journals, and ledger reconciliations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related area or equivalent combination of education and experience/training.
  • Knowledge of and ability to analyze and interpret purchasing, travel, and equipment management policies.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the UCLA BruinBuy purchasing system.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, and computer-based filing systems.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information.
  • Skill in financial analysis and grant, budget preparation, and basic accounting principles.
