About the position

The Research Administrator 3/Financial Analyst at the University of California, Davis, plays a crucial role in providing extramural planning and budgetary analysis under the supervision of the Financial Operations Analyst and CAO. This position involves ensuring compliance with contract and grant activities, assisting Principal Investigators (PIs) and department management, and managing complex budgets for various federal, state, and private grants. The role requires independent financial data gathering and analysis to support comprehensive budget construction and forecasting.

Responsibilities

  • Provide extramural planning and budgetary analysis under general supervision.
  • Act as a compliance officer for department contract and grant activity.
  • Gather and apply financial data to ensure accurate budget construction.
  • Manage pre- and post-award processes, including budget preparation and analysis.
  • Conduct financial analysis and effort reporting for various grants.
  • Collaborate with PIs and engineers to analyze programmatic needs and make recommendations.
  • Serve as a resource to CEE investigators and research personnel.

Requirements

  • Experience in financial analysis, forecasting, and strategic planning.
  • Experience in federal, state, and private grant budget preparation and financial reporting.
  • Ability to recognize and respond to problems with cost recovery and invoices.
  • Leadership and decision-making skills to solve problems and evaluate business needs.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for effective interaction with various stakeholders.
  • Organizational skills to manage multiple accounts and meet variable priorities.

Nice-to-haves

  • Completed Research Administration Certificate (RAC) or ability to obtain within two years.
  • Experience with UC Davis accounting and business management practices.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and cost allocation methods.
