About the position

The Research Administrator I/II at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center plays a crucial role in supporting faculty and personnel in the Clinical Research Division. This position involves managing grants and contracts, budget monitoring, regulatory administration, and day-to-day operations, contributing to the center's mission of advancing cancer treatment and research. The role requires collaboration with faculty and interfacing with various departments, ensuring effective research administration while working partially on-site and remotely.

Responsibilities

  • Provide overall Research Administration support to assigned faculty based on their research interests and goals.
  • Assist with grant submissions, including writing non-technical portions and preparing just-in-time materials.
  • Manage fiscal aspects of industry-sponsored clinical trials and develop basic budgets.
  • Perform post-award activities, including progress report submissions and sub-award management.
  • Monitor project budgets to ensure compliance with grant guidelines and institutional policies.
  • Prepare monthly budget summaries and reports for Principal Investigators (PIs).
  • Serve as purchasing liaison and manage corporate credit card approvals for faculty.
  • Support Human Resources activities, including recruitment and performance evaluations.
  • Assist with IRB, IACUC, and MUA/DUA applications and renewals.
  • Participate in team activities and provide coverage for team members as needed.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent for Research Administrator I; two years of relevant experience for Research Administrator II.
  • Some relevant administrative experience for Research Administrator I; two years of relevant experience for Research Administrator II.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact with personnel at various levels.
  • Proficient in fiscal and budgetary management with a basic understanding of accounting terminology.
  • Intermediate Excel skills, including using formulas and preparing account reports.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • Prior administrative experience in a research or academic setting.
  • Experience with pre-award and post-award grants and contract management.
  • Exposure to NIH grants and industry-sponsored clinical trials.
  • Familiarity with WorkDay, CLICK products, EPIC, and/or OnCore.
