About the position
The Research Administrator at Northwestern University provides administrative leadership and problem-solving support for the Electrical & Computer Engineering department's research programs. This role encompasses lifecycle pre- and post-award research administration, ensuring compliance with grant and contract requirements, and managing day-to-day research administration activities. The position also involves maintaining a departmental database of proposals and awards and participating in school-level sponsored research initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Manage pre-award administration of grants and contracts, including proposal development and budget preparation.
- Coordinate large-scale proposals and agreements, including teaming agreements and confidentiality agreements.
- Oversee post-award administration, including account establishment and expenditure reviews.
- Serve as a liaison between the department and various regulatory and funding agencies.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, federal, and institutional regulations regarding research administration.
- Participate in university committees to improve research administration processes.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of 3 years of research administration or relevant experience.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to multitask and communicate effectively.
Nice-to-haves
- Two to four years of proposal/award management experience in a university environment.
- Certified Research Administrator (CRA) certification.
- Understanding of OMB Uniform Guidance and agency-specific terms and conditions.
- Knowledge of NSF Proposal & Award Policies & Procedures Guide.
