About the position

The Research Analyst 1 position in the Alman Lab at Duke University School of Medicine involves conducting investigations related to exercise-induced muscle secreted factors and their impact on osteoarthritis. The role includes planning, developing, and implementing experimental procedures, as well as supervising and training lower-level personnel. This position is grant-funded and offers a one-year appointment with the possibility of renewal.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct a variety of investigations in the planning, development, and implementation of experimental procedures related to NIH Grant studies.
  • Perform mouse or rodent surgeries, including vascular catheterizations and open procedures.
  • Collect information and data through observation, experimentation, and operating technical laboratory instruments and equipment.
  • Maintain data, records, and scientific reports as required by grant and department.
  • Prepare tissue and specimens for complex procedures and devise experimental techniques for tests and analyses.
  • Evaluate and interpret collected data and prepare reports and analyses with recommendations or conclusions.
  • Confer with principal investigators to determine specific experiments for the research protocol and discuss results interpretation.
  • Review scientific literature to stay updated on new developments and aid in the design of original procedures and techniques.
  • Supervise, train, and instruct residents, interns, students, or lower-level personnel in laboratory techniques and procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in botany, biology, zoology, psychology, or a related scientific field.
  • Two years of research experience, or a related master's degree may offset required years of experience on a 1:1 basis.
