About the position

The Research Analyst position within the Science, Systems, and Sustainment Division (S3D) focuses on supporting the Department of Defense's office of Cost Assessment and Program Evaluation (CAPE). The role involves conducting high-visibility analyses to advise mid- and senior-level officials on resource allocation for defense programs, emphasizing data-intensive analyses and the development of mathematical models. The analyst will work collaboratively in a team environment, contributing to major studies that influence Department of Defense strategy and program reviews.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct high-visibility analyses to support and advise mid- and senior-level civilian and military officials on DoD resource allocation.
  • Provide analytical support to the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) for major studies affecting defense strategy.
  • Develop mathematical and analytical models with a focus on novel approaches and visual displays for programmatic issues.
  • Analyze and evaluate capabilities, effectiveness, feasibility, and costs of proposed forces and weapon systems.
  • Utilize Department data systems for forces, programs, personnel, and readiness budgets.
  • Engage closely with government officials leading strategic studies.
  • Occasional travel is expected.

Requirements

  • PhD in a STEM field or Operations Research, Data Science, or a related data-intensive research field; OR a Master's degree with 8+ years of relevant experience; OR a Master's degree combined with military experience.
  • Experience using programming languages such as R or Python for data processing, analysis, and visualization.
  • Ability to clearly explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
