About the position

The Contingent Research Analyst position at Institutional Shareholder Services (ISS) is a temporary role based in Rockville, Maryland, starting in January 2025 and concluding in May/June 2025. This role is part of the Custom Research team, which focuses on providing clients with tailored governance research and vote recommendations based on their specific policies. The position offers an opportunity to gain experience in corporate governance and may lead to a full-time role in the future. The analyst will work in a hybrid environment, requiring both in-office and remote work, and may need to work overtime during peak periods.

Responsibilities

  • Complete basic and advanced analytical governance research of specific meetings and companies.
  • Distill financial and corporate governance information and issue proxy vote recommendations based on client specific policy guidelines.
  • Complete client specific reports and/or policy related projects.
  • Research policy-related issues and support staff in their completion of such projects.
  • Identify process improvement opportunities and opportunities to enhance the department's service offering.
  • Assist the team with supervision of projects/tasks from time to time as needed.
  • Manage work allocation and maintain timeliness of client deliverables.

Requirements

  • Bachelor´s degree and/or Master's degree in finance, economics, law, or equivalent.
  • Preferably experience in a related field such as finance, research, or law.
  • Ability to make a commitment to working the duration of the assignment.
  • Proven ability to exercise superior judgment.
  • Organizational skills, attention to detail, a dedicated work ethic, and the ability to multi-task in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment.
  • Work effectively with clients and colleagues at various levels across staff and function lines.
  • Experience providing innovative solutions to processes and problems.
  • Excellent writing and research abilities, proofreading skills, and well-developed oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong computer literacy with previous experience, particularly in MS Office and Excel.

Nice-to-haves

  • Preferred familiarity with corporate governance issues, corporate transactions, capital markets, and SEC filings.
  • Preferred knowledge or competency in corporate governance.
  • Solid understanding of business technology and experience working with technology in an operational context.
