About the position

The Research Analyst at the New York City Department of Housing Preservation & Development (HPD) will design, conduct, and support research projects aimed at ensuring greater equity for all New Yorkers. This role involves engaging with various stakeholders to address policy-relevant issues, focusing on fair housing and the analysis of disparities in residential conditions. The Research Analyst will work closely with the Research & Evaluation team and the Center for Research on HOME to provide high-quality data that informs decision-making and policy development.

Responsibilities

  • Scope and plan projects related to fair housing, including formulating research questions and developing analytic strategies.
  • Identify sources of data that meet project requirements.
  • Conduct quantitative analyses using appropriate statistical methodologies on various data sources.
  • Develop data visualizations and tables to represent key findings for diverse stakeholders.
  • Translate findings to policy and program staff to support evidence-based decision making.
  • Collaborate with partners on ongoing and planned research activities related to fair housing.
  • Participate in the development of R&E's research agenda.

Requirements

  • A master's degree in an appropriate field of physical, biological, environmental science, or public health for Assignment Level I.
  • A doctorate degree in an appropriate field of physical, biological, environmental, or social science and one year of relevant experience for Assignment Level II and above.
  • A master's degree in an appropriate field and three years of responsible full-time research experience for Assignment Level II and above.
  • At least two years of experience in a relevant field, with substitutions allowed for City Research Scientist Level I.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in conducting primary data collection and qualitative research.
  • Familiarity with fair housing policies and practices.
  • Strong communication skills for translating complex data to non-technical audiences.
