The Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) is seeking a highly organized and collaborative team player to join our Research and Evaluation Division as a Research Analyst specializing in Geographic Information Systems (GIS). This position is crucial in providing support to the ARC Research and Evaluation team through a variety of data, GIS mapping, research, and evaluation assignments that align with ARC's Strategic Plan. The role involves the collection, management, analysis, visualization, reporting, and dissemination of geographic information and knowledge, which will be presented in the form of maps, databases, and reports. The Research and Evaluation team conducts both internal and external work, often through commissioned contracts, to describe socioeconomic conditions in Appalachia, analyze economic development trends, understand geographic areas of need, and document and evaluate ARC's programmatic investments. The information generated from this work is utilized for various purposes, including ARC policy documents, workshops, events, press releases, research reports, evaluation studies, website content, and other venues. The Research Analyst will work closely with the Division Director and the team on database, cartographic, research, and evaluation projects, supporting a variety of assignments at different stages of implementation as directed. This position requires a strong foundation in research methods, quantitative analysis, and familiarity with statistics and social sciences, including economics, geography, and sociology. The ideal candidate will have proven knowledge of GIS mapping software and data processing procedures, along with expert experience in presenting complex analyses and results to various stakeholders using data visualizations. The role also demands solid project management skills, the ability to thrive in a collaborative environment, and a commitment to bringing an energetic and innovative approach to the work.
