About the position

The Research Analyst position at the University of Massachusetts Amherst involves supporting the Economic & Public Policy Research group by conducting data collection, analysis, and reporting. The role is essential for implementing projects that provide economic and demographic data analysis to inform policymakers in various sectors. The position offers a hybrid work opportunity, allowing for a combination of remote and in-office work.

Responsibilities

  • Completes literature reviews and background research, including research articles and secondary data.
  • Develops and/or acquires instruments and training protocols for primary data collection activities.
  • Coordinates logistical support for timely and accurate data collection with clients and stakeholders.
  • Identifies and utilizes secondary data from public and private sources.
  • Develops and maintains project databases, overseeing data entry and quality assurance protocols.
  • Conducts analysis of quantitative and qualitative data.
  • Contributes to the development of high-quality project deliverables with clear visual and narrative summaries.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Completion of a statistics course and/or research methods course.
  • Experience with statistical software such as Stata, SPSS, R, or SAS.
  • Proficiency in professional office software, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Flexibility to travel as needed within Massachusetts and occasionally outside the Commonwealth.
  • Ability to transport supplies weighing up to 20 pounds.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree.
  • Academic discipline in social sciences such as Economics, Geography, or Public Policy.
  • Experience with specialized software like Access or ArcGIS.
  • Experience with public data sources including the U.S. Census and Bureau of Labor Statistics.
  • One year of relevant professional experience in economics, demographics, or public policy.
