About the position

The Research Analyst II position at the Center for Education Policy Research (CEPR) at Harvard University involves conducting quantitative research to improve education outcomes. The role requires leading analytic projects, preparing data sets, performing statistical analyses, and mentoring junior staff. The analyst will collaborate with faculty and researchers, contribute to project development, and communicate findings to various audiences.

Responsibilities

  • Lead substantial portions of analytic and research projects with minimal supervision.
  • Assemble and prepare large data sets for analysis.
  • Conduct independent statistical analyses in Stata or R.
  • Develop software code and toolkits suitable for reuse by others and automation of work.
  • Develop and deliver presentations on results for internal and external audiences.
  • Draft reports and papers for publication.
  • Contribute to the development of new projects and proposals.
  • Participate in regular team meetings.
  • Mentor junior staff in programming and methodology.
  • Build strong relationships with external partners in education agencies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in public policy, economics, statistics, computer science, education policy, social science, or a related field.
  • At least two years of related professional work experience that includes substantial independent work with STATA and/or R programming and data analysis.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in a related field preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of statistical methods and quantitative research design.
  • Experience with Randomized Control Trials, Difference-in-Difference, Regression Discontinuity, or Propensity Score Matching designs.
  • Experience working with data of varying quality and from varied source systems.
  • Demonstrated data preparation and cleaning skills.
  • K-12 sector or university research experience.
  • Stan or Python programming experience.
