About the position

As a Research Analyst for North America Gas at Wood Mackenzie, you will play a pivotal role in leading analysis and client engagement for Northeast gas supply and Certified Natural Gas. Your primary responsibility will be to conduct thorough research and produce insightful reports, data models, and presentations that inform our clients' commercial strategies. This includes asset valuation, market supply-demand research, price forecasting, and regional gas flow analysis. You will be instrumental in utilizing Wood Mackenzie's proprietary GPCM modeling to forecast gas production, pipeline, and storage capacity utilization, contributing significantly to both short- and long-term gas forecasts. In this role, you will monitor key events in the energy sector and engage in primary research to gather intelligence that feeds into our industry expertise. You will collaborate closely with our Upstream teams to ensure accurate supply forecasts and will be the primary user of our supply forecasting model. Your work will involve publishing written reports and presentations for clients on the WoodMac portal, ensuring that our data quality is maintained and that our insights are actionable. The company has adopted a hybrid work model, requiring employees to be present in the office two days a week. As part of the North America Gas Research team, you will have the opportunity to build relationships with key operators, national bodies, and other relevant institutions, enhancing your knowledge and skills in the natural gas market.

Responsibilities

  • Lead analysis and client engagement for Northeast gas supply and Certified Natural Gas.
  • Conduct thorough research to produce reports, data models, and presentations.
  • Utilize GPCM modeling for gas production, pipeline, and storage capacity utilization.
  • Forecast supply and conduct supply-demand balancing and regional gas flow analysis.
  • Collaborate with Upstream teams to contribute to short- and long-term gas forecasts.
  • Publish written reports and presentations for clients on the WoodMac portal.
  • Engage in primary research and respond to customer inquiries.
  • Build relationships with industry stakeholders and enhance market research coverage.

Requirements

  • Relevant experience or knowledge in commodity market dynamics and natural resources industry.
  • Strong analytical mindset with attention to detail, proven in academic or work experience.
  • Experience working with statistical models and large data sets.
  • Ability to collect and interpret data, articulating findings clearly and insightfully.
  • Excellent command of English, both written and spoken; knowledge of another language is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in Canadian gas market fundamentals analysis.
  • Familiarity with database use and programming languages.
  • Strong writing and communication skills with confidence in presenting to an audience.
