About the position

The Research Analyst will support the Independent Evaluation Office (IEO) of UNDP in executing evaluations and synthesis products for 2024-2025. This role involves conducting preliminary research, data collection, and analysis, while adhering to established methodologies. The Research Analyst will enhance evaluation activities through project management and data analytics expertise, ensuring timely delivery of projects.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct surveys and gather UNDP corporate programme documents, results reports, country and financial data, and other relevant information.
  • Utilize quantitative and qualitative research methodologies to analyze data and formulate evidence-based conclusions.
  • Conduct comprehensive research and gather both primary and secondary data for evaluation studies.
  • Compile data and upload background materials to IEO's common document portals and systems.
  • Perform initial desk reviews of materials and prepare analytical content, including infographics for evaluation reports.
  • Assist lead evaluators in examining country programme outcomes.
  • Translate and assess the quality of documents as necessary.
  • Coordinate the work of the Research Analysts team as necessary.
  • Design PowerBI dashboards and automate processes as required.
  • Provide additional general research support as required.

Requirements

  • Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in Social Sciences, Economics, Public Administration, Political Science, International Relations, or other relevant areas.
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience in conducting research in the international development context with expertise in machine learning applied to development.
  • Experience in using computer and office software packages, web-based data management systems; Microsoft Office Word, Advanced Excel, PowerPoint, TEAMS, SharePoint, MS Project, NVivo.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in using various research qualitative and quantitative methodologies; monitoring and evaluation tools.
  • Experience in Python and/or R, PowerQuery and PowerBi for data analysis.
  • Prior work experience at or familiarity with the work of UNDP and/or other UN agencies.
