About the position

The Research Analyst/Paralegal position at Harter Secrest & Emery LLP is designed for a dynamic and experienced candidate to join the Information Services team. The role involves performing complex legal and non-legal research, document retrieval, and providing high-level support to attorneys and staff across multiple offices. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring efficient and effective research practices while maintaining exceptional service standards.

Responsibilities

  • Perform complex legal, legislative, company, industry, and other research using platforms like Lexis, Westlaw, and Bloomberg Law.
  • Locate and procure resources and documents from various sources including courts, libraries, and government agencies.
  • Review and index case materials for attorneys, summarizing transcripts and organizing discovery documents.
  • Assist in the preparation of legal pleadings including complaints, answers, and motions.
  • Familiarity with federal and state court electronic filing procedures and document formatting.
  • Participate in training and continuing education to maintain expert knowledge of legal research trends and resources.
  • Monitor news, dockets, legislation, and rulemaking for current awareness.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field with five years of experience in legal research and client service, or a Master's degree in Library or Information Science with one to three years of relevant experience.
  • Strong analytical, information gathering, and problem-solving skills.
  • Collaborative interpersonal and client service skills to maintain effective relationships.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and proofreading skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a legal or professional service organization.
