About the position

The Research Department at the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond is seeking a Research Analyst to join its Regional and Community Analysis unit. This position is integral to the department's mission of analyzing data related to community college outcomes and workforce development. The successful candidate will engage in a variety of tasks, including data collection, organization, and cleaning of data gathered through the Survey of Community College Outcomes (SCCO). The role requires a strong analytical mindset and a firm grasp of economic principles, as the analyst will support internal briefings for the Bank President and contribute to external presentations and publications aimed at the public. The position is located in Richmond, Virginia, or at the branch in Charlotte, North Carolina, and offers a flexible work environment that promotes work-life balance. As a Research Analyst, you will be responsible for producing written content related to the Survey of Community College and broader initiatives in higher education and workforce development. This includes conducting both quantitative and qualitative data analysis, writing detailed findings for internal and external publications, and creating visual data representations for presentations. You will also maintain records and perform data upkeep for large datasets beyond the SCCO data, collaborating with peers and other departments to align research activities with the Bank's goals and strategies. Responsibilities

  • Perform data collection, organization, and cleaning of data collected through the Survey of Community College Outcomes.
  • Produce written content related to the Survey of Community College and broader work on higher education and workforce development.
  • Conduct quantitative and qualitative data analysis.
  • Write detailed findings for inclusion in internal or external publications; may edit and review work of less senior staff.
  • Create charts and other data visuals for internal and external presentations.
  • Maintain records and perform data upkeep for large data sets related to higher education and workforce development, beyond the SCCO data.
  • Collaborate with peers and other departments to align research activities with Bank goals and strategies.
  • Present survey findings to external groups.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably with coursework in economics.
  • Three or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience with computer programming and statistical analysis software packages (such as Stata, R, Matlab, C, Fortran, Gauss, and Python).
  • Experience with Tableau is a plus.
  • Acute attention to detail with a high level of data integrity and accuracy.
  • Strong research skills and analytical ability.
  • Ability to write reports that concisely convey critical information about complex subjects.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in workforce development and higher education research.
  • Familiarity with data visualization tools beyond Tableau.
