About the position

The Research Analyst position at the North Carolina Biotechnology Center involves uncovering insights from data to support informed decision-making and strategic growth within the organization. The role is part of the Impact Research Team, which provides research and data support across various units, focusing on metrics related to the life sciences ecosystem in North Carolina. The analyst will deliver in-depth research reports, manage data resources, and train staff on research-related tools and processes.

Responsibilities

  • Provide research and data support across all NCBiotech units.
  • Deliver in-depth research reports on topics like NCBiotech impact metrics, life sciences market research, competitive intelligence, economic development, and public policy.
  • Interview clients to understand their needs and advise on the best approach.
  • Extract, analyze, and report critical information from various sources.
  • Present results through documents, visualizations, spreadsheets, presentations, or in-person meetings depending on the need.
  • Train staff on data and research-related tools and processes.
  • Consult on information and data management projects across the organization.
  • Participate in teams and committees.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Requirements

  • A master's degree in library science or equivalent degree from an ALA-accredited institution.
  • Two years of experience in a setting that requires answering complex industry or market questions and performing literature/database searches; experience in analyzing and communicating results of searches; data management; advising clients on available information resources and how to effectively leverage them, preferably in an economic development or business environment.
  • OR A bachelor's degree in a related field and 5+ years of relevant experience.
  • Expertise in advanced search techniques across research databases, search engines, and online tools with proficiency in searching government and business databases.
  • Strong Excel skills and experience with visualization tools and techniques.
  • Focused on detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • High proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working with large data sets, Tableau or Power BI, GIS data mapping, content management systems (Drupal/WordPress), and CRM systems (HubSpot).
  • Familiarity with scientific, biological, and financial terminology.
  • Familiarity with emerging technologies like AI.
  • Experience in survey and assessment design.
