About the position

The Research Analyst position at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York offers a unique opportunity to engage with national and international markets and economies. As a Research Analyst, you will work closely with economists and senior research analysts to prepare analyses, reports, and other materials that support policy and research projects. This role is designed for individuals who are eager to develop their analytical skills and contribute to the safety and soundness of the economic and financial systems. In this role, you will be responsible for downloading and assembling data, preparing charts and tables, and creating and maintaining spreadsheets. You will utilize statistical, econometric, and other software packages to perform analyses, model estimation, and simulations. Additionally, you will assist in preparing memos and presentations that are crucial for the Bank's policy work. The position also involves supporting long-term research initiatives. You will conduct literature reviews and archival research, as well as assist in writing and proofreading articles. On a rotating basis, you will provide support for the production of documents prepared for regular briefings of the Bank president, senior management, and the Bank's Board of Directors. This includes contributing to the Blackbook and other briefing documents produced as part of the FOMC cycle, as well as other reports that align with the Bank's and Research Group's goals. The Federal Reserve Bank of New York values work flexibility, allowing employees to balance their professional and personal lives while fostering collaboration with colleagues. Employees are expected to be in the office a couple of days per week as needed for meetings and team collaboration, and should reside within a commutable distance from the office.

Responsibilities

  • Assist economists and senior staff in Bank policy work by downloading and assembling data, preparing charts and tables, and creating and maintaining spreadsheets.
  • Utilize statistical, econometric, and other software packages to perform analyses, model estimation, and simulations.
  • Assist in preparing memos and presentations for policy and research projects.
  • Conduct literature reviews and archival research for long-term research initiatives.
  • Help with writing and proofreading articles related to research projects.
  • Support the production of documents for regular briefings of the Bank president, senior management, and the Bank's Board of Directors.
  • Contribute to the production of material included in the Blackbook and other briefing documents for the FOMC cycle.
  • Perform other tasks to accomplish the Bank's and Research Group's goals.

Requirements

  • Experience in Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field.
  • Experience in data analysis and using statistical packages such as R, Stata, Matlab, Julia, SAS, Gauss, TSP, RATS, EViews, PROCSQL.
  • Computer programming experience in languages such as Java, C++, or Python.
