About the position

The Bay Area Council Economic Institute is seeking a Research Analyst to join its dynamic economic and policy research team. This role is pivotal in addressing major issues that impact the competitiveness, economic development, and quality of life in the Bay Area and the state of California. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, committed to high-quality work, and thrive in a collaborative environment. The Research Analyst will engage in various projects from inception to completion, contributing to the development of reports, presentations, and other materials that reflect both quantitative and qualitative assessments of the region's economy. In this position, the Research Analyst will work closely with colleagues to produce comprehensive reports and will lead specific tasks within projects. The role involves significant coordination with team members and external stakeholders, ensuring that the research outputs are robust and insightful. Analysts are expected to contribute meaningful ideas and progressively take on greater responsibilities over time, fostering their professional growth within the organization. Key responsibilities include writing and developing articles and publications, aiding in the design of research strategies, proofreading and editing documents, conducting interviews, performing data analysis using tools like STATA and Excel, and maintaining the Institute's databases. The Research Analyst will also provide support for various Institute events and functions, making this a multifaceted role that requires strong analytical and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with colleagues to produce reports, presentations, and other materials.
  • Lead specific tasks within projects while contributing to overall project goals.
  • Write and develop articles, publications, and reports collaboratively.
  • Aid in the design of research strategies and methods on a project-by-project basis.
  • Proofread and copy-edit Institute documents and presentations.
  • Participate in and lead interviews with outside individuals relevant to Institute projects.
  • Conduct data analysis using applications such as STATA, Excel, and IMPLAN.
  • Process data and maintain the Institute's databases.
  • Provide support for Institute events and functions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent of 2-3 years' work experience.
  • Excellent writing skills.
  • Well-developed analytical thinking.
  • Strong quantitative and statistical skills.
  • Highly adept with MS Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint; experience with STATA or other statistical programs is a plus.
