About the position

The Research Analyst position at Baron Capital, Inc. in New York, NY, is a critical role focused on generating investment recommendations for Portfolio Managers. The successful candidate will conduct extensive primary research on existing holdings and new investment ideas to inform strategic investment decisions. This involves a thorough analysis of industry trends and competitive dynamics, utilizing publicly available data, engaging with customers and competitors, conducting channel checks, and interviewing industry experts. Regular attendance at investment conferences is also expected to stay abreast of market developments. The role requires direct interaction with company management teams to gather updates on their strategies and the broader industry landscape. A significant part of the job involves analyzing financial statements of public companies and their peers, building and updating financial models, and performing stock valuation analyses. The Research Analyst will also contribute to portfolio reporting, risk management, and the business development of the Emerging Market strategy. Additionally, the position includes assisting with managerial functions related to optimizing investment decisions and implementing various initiatives and strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Generate investment recommendations for Portfolio Managers.
  • Conduct primary research on existing holdings or new ideas to inform investment decisions.
  • Study industry trends and competitive dynamics by analyzing publicly available data.
  • Contact customers and competitors, conduct channel checks, and interview industry experts.
  • Attend investment conferences regularly to gather insights.
  • Meet with company management teams to obtain updates on company strategy and industry landscape.
  • Analyze financial statements of public companies and their peers.
  • Build and update financial models.
  • Perform stock valuation analysis.
  • Contribute to portfolio reporting, risk management, and business development of Emerging Market strategy.
  • Assist with managerial functions related to optimization of investment decisions and other initiatives.

Requirements

  • Master's degree (US or foreign equivalent) in Business Administration, Finance, or a related field.
  • Three (3) years of experience in the position offered or in a related role.
  • Experience performing financial due diligence on existing or potential new holdings by analyzing financial statements and assessing key industry metrics.
  • Experience conducting channel checks and attending conferences.
  • Experience collecting, synthesizing, and analyzing publicly available data to analyze industry trends and competitive dynamics.
  • Experience interviewing company management teams and local industry experts to obtain updates on company strategy and industry competitive landscape.
  • Ability to interpret key and complex information and summarize research findings.
  • Experience forecasting key operating metrics and company financial figures including revenue, cash flow, working capital, profitability, and capital structure.
  • Experience building and maintaining financial models using Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience performing stock valuation analysis using methodologies including comparative analysis and discounted cash flow analysis.
  • Ability to communicate and present investment recommendations to management.
