About the position

The Research Analyst position at the Philadelphia Museum of Art plays a crucial role in supporting the museum's fundraising efforts through comprehensive research deliverables. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting a variety of biographical and financial prospect research, which is essential for frontline fundraisers, executives, and other stakeholders. This role involves screening and analyzing data to assess wealth, including capacity and inclination ratings, which will aid in strategic decision-making for fundraising initiatives. The Research Analyst will also collaborate closely with the Director of Prospect Research and Management to develop and implement procedures, including training for other staff members. In addition to research tasks, the Research Analyst will participate in prospect strategy meetings and special projects, serving as a primary research resource for selected frontline fundraisers. This includes managing prospect meetings and providing relevant research insights. The role requires monitoring news and other sources for pertinent information about constituents, businesses, and philanthropic activities. The Research Analyst is expected to engage in professional development activities, such as webinars and conferences, to stay updated on best practices in the field. The position demands a strong commitment to ethical standards and confidentiality, as well as the ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines. The ideal candidate will have a background in fundraising research, excellent analytical skills, and proficiency in using various online research tools. This full-time position is part of the AFSCME Local 397 bargaining unit and reports directly to the Director of Prospect Research and Management.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct varying levels of biographical and financial prospect research.
  • Support research initiatives related to special solicitations, database projects, genealogy projects, and other research projects as assigned.
  • Screen and analyze data to assess wealth, including capacity and inclination ratings to support fundraisers, strategies, and decision-making.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Prospect Research and Management to implement and create procedures including training of other staff.
  • Participate in selected prospect strategy and special project meetings with key staff.
  • Serve as the primary research resource for a few frontline fundraisers including running their prospect management meetings and providing research.
  • Monitor news and other sources for relevant constituent, business, and philanthropic information.
  • Participate in professional development activities such as webinars, trainings, readings, and conferences.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum of three years' experience conducting prospect research in a fundraising environment.
  • Demonstrated experience with prospect research methodology and practice.
  • Excellent analytical, logical, conceptual, and problem-solving abilities with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects to meet tight deadlines.
  • Experience with prospect management desirable.
  • Proficiency with using online research tools (e.g., LexisNexis, iWave/Kindsight, Foundation Directory, etc.).
  • Adherence to Apra International's Code of Ethics.
  • Strong experience with a fundraising database, Raiser's Edge preferred.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to be flexible and creative.
  • Computer proficiency including Microsoft Word and Excel required.
