About the position

The Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) is seeking a highly responsible and professional Research Analyst to join the Office of Recovery within the Substance Abuse and Mental Health (SAMH) Program. This position is critical in supporting the agency's mission to protect vulnerable populations and promote strong, self-sufficient families. The Research Analyst will be tasked with staying updated on the latest opioid-related studies and evaluations, disseminating innovative methodologies, and sharing important findings with department staff and partners. The role requires independent judgment and expertise in opioid-related epidemiology, program evaluation, and literature reviews, necessitating collaboration with various sections within the program office. The incumbent will conduct complex critical analyses and evaluations of both projected and actual effectiveness of current or proposed program activities. Responsibilities include assisting in the development of research agendas and project scopes, designing systems to capture data, and conducting various analyses on the collected data. The Research Analyst will recommend, implement, and monitor changes in work processes to ensure that stated outcomes are achieved. Additionally, the position involves documenting findings from primary and secondary research, summarizing research studies, and producing graphical and written analyses for interim and final reports. The role also includes preparing programmatic reports, justifications, charts, graphs, and statistical and narrative data. The Research Analyst will utilize software programs to create effective data visualizations and develop presentation slides or infographic reports. Conducting appropriate analyses to answer evaluation questions and providing information for mandatory statutory and annual reports are also key responsibilities. The position may involve conducting special projects as assigned and providing guidance and technical assistance for assigned projects. The Research Analyst will represent the Department at relevant conferences, summits, and meetings, presenting findings and providing consultation through accurate data presentation.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct complex critical analyses and evaluations of projected and actual effectiveness of current or proposed program activities.
  • Assist in developing research agendas and project scopes.

  • Collect and analyze opioid-related datasets using statistical analysis software.
  • Produce graphical and written analyses of findings for interim and final reports.
  • Prepare programmatic reports, justifications, charts, graphs, and statistical and narrative data.
  • Use software programs to create effective data visualizations; develop presentation slides or infographic reports.
  • Conduct appropriate analyses to answer evaluation questions or provide requested/required information.
  • Document analysis processes used, including definitions, assumptions, timeframes, and inclusions/exclusions.
  • Provide information for mandatory statutory and annual reports.
  • Conduct special projects as assigned.
  • Provide guidance, technical assistance, and specialized program expertise for assigned projects.
  • Advise management on relevant research-related projects and tasks, identifying areas for improvement and solutions as applicable.
  • Represent the Department and present findings at relevant conferences, summits, and meetings.

Requirements

  • Three years of experience with academic, business, or technical writing.
  • Three years of professional experience with program planning, research, and evaluation.
  • Three years of professional experience with research and demonstrated application of research skills.
  • Three years of professional experience serving as a lead or assistant on a major research project.
  • A bachelor's degree from a college or university in a behavioral health or public health field is preferred.
